After initially releasing a pro-shot 6/14/91 version of the tune, Grateful Dead HQ has revisited “Wang Dang Doodle” for this week’s edition of “All The Years Live,” sharing a version from less than a month earlier.
“‘Wang Dang Doodle’ was a welcome addition to the setlist as another blues song perfectly suited to Bob’s vocals and the Dead’s performing style,” explains GD archivist/legacy manager David Lemieux of the new, 5/11/91 clip, shot at California’s Shoreline Amphitheatre. “Although it appeared in a few places up and down the setlist, it was primarily played in the blues slot early in the first set, and Bruce Hornsby’s piano contribution were always perfectly placed.”
