Following the news that Phish Radio would replace SiriusXM’s Jam On, music fans have started a petition on Change.org to bring the station back to satellite radio. At the time of publishing this piece, the petition has over 3,000 signatures.
“When Sirius Announced the exciting launch of Phish radio on station 29, they also announced that the existing Jam On station would be losing DJ’s and moving to a station only available on the SiriusXM APP,” reads the petition. “Due to this, many young up and coming genre bands lose their national radio voice and millions of fans can no longer listen in their cars and find out about new talent.”
Phish Radio officially launched on June 14, to coincide with the band’s three headlining sets at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
Currently, while Jam On is off satellite airwaves, it remains available on the SiriusXM app and online at siriusxm.com.
Check out the petition here.

May 2, 2020 at 1:30 pmThe brainless nitwit that proposed this plan & the fool that approvesd it should both be fired. Jam On played to much phish as it was. I did cancel all services with SiriusXM. 3 vehicles plus streaming. I don’t hate phish but they do not deserve a dedicated channel.

October 3, 2019 at 12:55 pmThis is killing me to not have Jam on! this was the reason I have subscribed to this farging company and I am now beyond angry about losing my favorite Channel !!

August 23, 2019 at 6:25 pmThis was a idiotic decision and typical of the way Sirius runs their business. Their Satellites are antiquated and reception is poor. Please reconsider and have two stations like was done with DMB. Sirius can hardly afford subscription losses.

August 20, 2019 at 1:02 pmWas never a big fan of Jam On. I can only handle so much Tauk, Twiddle, and Section 8..er..Sector 9?

June 26, 2019 at 1:59 pmThe only thing good left on XM now is Howard Stern. Jam on was the only decent station left and now they f***ed it up now. I like Phish, but in small doses just like anyone else. XM used to be about variety. V*A*R*I*E*T*Y. How hard is that?

June 21, 2019 at 11:51 amjam-on was the worst channel. good move sirius.

June 21, 2019 at 10:02 amBEYOND JAZZ was the best channel, by far, and you cut them off when you merged. Now, Jam On is gone? It’s time to cancel and stream elsewhere or go back to playing my cd’s for crying out loud.

June 19, 2019 at 10:28 amI emailed Sirius about it and they said this:
“We do our best to maintain a lineup that provides the most value possible to all of our listeners. Where every channel is popular with its specific audience, we only have so many channels we can carry and are sometimes forced to make hard choices about which channels we think do the best job satisfying our overall audience.”
So they’re dropping a somewhat general channel for a more specific niche band that will satisfy a smaller portion of the audience. That makes sense…
Chris
June 19, 2019 at 10:49 amIt may be a smaller portion of the jam band audience, but Phish may have a larger overall audience than jam bands in general. I know a lot of Phish heads, but not that many jam band fans. The ones who do listen to other jam bands and go to the shows tend to be just passing time between Phish shows. Having said that, I recognize that’s just an anecdote from my personal experience. I have no idea what the general situation is, just throwing out the possibility there may be more fans of Phish than of the jam band scene in general. Or maybe Sirius XM has data that shows far more people tuning into Jam On when Phish is playing than when not.
I don’t know, just thinking out loud about it through my keyboard….

June 19, 2019 at 12:01 pmUnless you’re an over the top die hard phish head I don’t think most listeners are keen on this. There is already two hours devoted to the band every night. You’ll hear 1-2 of their songs in every other hour of the day. Plus the entirety of live phish is on other premium music platforms. I could easily occupy myself with that much phish content for years to come if it means I still get to dabble with all the other artists jam on brings to the table

June 19, 2019 at 10:18 amLet’s be honest Jam on has kind of lost the edge in the last several years. They play the same cuts of songs on a 12 hour cycle, which is the exact same thing fm radio does, and they heavily push a handful of bands down our throats (DMB, MMJ, Mule, Phish, and now for some inexplicable reason twiddle). I will be letting my subscription expire and then subscribing to nugs.net, it has way fresher live stuff from bands all across the spectrum, not just one or two songs over and over again. That coupled with the golden age of podcasting that we’re in means xm radio is now old hat.

June 19, 2019 at 8:50 amJust get rid of the DJs. I pay for music, not giddy stories about some show a DJ saw, whether it’s Phish or any other jam band.

June 19, 2019 at 7:12 amI called Sirius to cancel but ended up with a new subscription at 1/3 of what I’ve been paying. I agree that Jam_on sucks lately but still better than most other options. I’ll cancel next year if it doesn’t come back. If unhappy, call them they don’t want to lose subscribers. And bring back the Loft!

June 18, 2019 at 10:13 pmJam On definitely needs a rework, but to remove it from my choice of stations while I drive is too far, I feel. I have no problem with Phish having their own channel. I like it, in fact. Bring back Jam On.
Just remember you suck
June 18, 2019 at 9:45 pmJam on is unfortunately still there muppets, it’s just a different channel, 716 or something like that.

June 18, 2019 at 9:29 pmHere is the real skinny from an experienced Corporate insider. Sirius standalone was great an innovator with real programmed stations. GD, Jam On, the Vault, Coffee House, the Loft, etc, all great stations with original programming and limited repeats. Then they overpaid for & merged with XM to the brink of bankruptcy and had to cut costs by consolidating stations and reverting to repeated limited playlists. Now they’ve overpaid for Pandora and the cycle begins again…

June 18, 2019 at 9:19 pmThis is going to save me some money. Previously we had 2 car radio accounts plus the app / internet. We just switched to unlimited data on our phones, so we’ll drop one of the car radios and just use the app.

June 18, 2019 at 8:51 pmWrite to [email protected] and tell them to bring back Jam On to ch. 29 so we can listen in our cars!!
Phish is only part of the scene, please don’t limit the musical menu to just one item~

June 18, 2019 at 8:42 pmSirius did the same thing last year with Area 52. They changed it it Diplo’s channel and it sucks! At least with this they got rid of all of the garbage jambands and just went the kings!! The wife and I couldn’t be happier!!!!

June 18, 2019 at 8:34 pmWhy not both? I subscribed just for the Phish station. I like that they are playing other artists the band is influenced by and currently into. They could do more of that. And keep playing highlights from recent shows. Way easier than digging through the internet. That said, Jam On should still be on the air for all the reasons mentioned.

June 18, 2019 at 8:29 pmI find it utterly hilarious that there is an actual petition for this. Yes, I suppose you can say JamOn played a mix of jam bands, BUT it was the same song by the same artists over and over. It was like a glorified playlist. Steph, I have respect for you and everything you have done in the scene, but you played the same artists and the same songs over and over. The only variety was the different Mule or Warren songs, which to me is unprofessional. I get it, he is your husband and you love him. Just showed to much favor for my taste. The only diversity was the Weekly Stash and Roll Your Own segments. As for the emerging artists, yes JamOn did help some emerging acts springboard into a bigger audience. I respect that and it is a loss to the well being of the scene. If JamOn does come back, they need to really rethink their approach and stop playing the same material over and over. That’s my two cents.
You can find me at MPP this weekend when Phish burns it to the ground again.

June 18, 2019 at 8:03 pmI’m a huge ham band fan but HATED jam on. Same songs by the same bands, over and over. Thank you Xm for doing this. I only listen to jam on for my phish fix. Now I don’t have to sit through the black crows or jamtronic to wait for it! This is the best day of my life..
Pat
June 18, 2019 at 7:47 pmJam on should be all day of the roll your own segment, that’s the only time we hear a variety
Tina Cole
June 18, 2019 at 7:41 pmMy husband and I cancelled due to losing Jam On. Loved that station, love SCI, and just the variety. Not a Phish fan. I wil be signing the petition.
WE LOVE DICKS
June 18, 2019 at 7:26 pmWe should have BOTH. Phish deserves a channel and JamOn should stay. As long as Steph stops playin her husband Warren all the time.

June 18, 2019 at 7:10 pmI’m fine with it. Im not into the new wave of jam bands. I guess I’m too old. Phish, Pearl Jam, Grateful Dead and the Boss have channels. I’m happy with my subscription.

June 18, 2019 at 11:35 pmWhat’s next, changing The Joint reggae station into the Bob Marley channel?

June 19, 2019 at 10:02 amI don’t need an all-Bob channel, but an all roots reggae channel would be nice. Yah mon.

June 18, 2019 at 6:26 pmAfter a long stressful work week, I love to race home on Friday afternoons, take a couple massive hits of weed, and crank up the Weekly Live Stash. Not only was jam On moved, but the Stash wasn’t even on the new channel Friday night. I know people love Phish, but good lord, jam On played waaaaaay too much Phish as it was, let alone giving them an entire channel. I would like to see Jam On come back to channel 29, but as others have suggested, in a very updated format. Get rid of the Phish set every single night of the week for starters, then greatly expand the variety of songs played by each artist. Honestly, I love the hell out of WSMFP, but if I hear that version of “I’m so glad” one more time, I’ll lose what’s left of my mind. Jam On should be all about the improvizational adventure all the time — not simply an extended jam once or twice an hour, with AAA rock gumming up the rest of the playlist.
That 1 Guy
June 19, 2019 at 10:25 amDamn if they’re getting rid of the weekly shows then that’s really the last straw for me! Check out the nugs.net app it’s like an app strictly for “weekly live stash” songs that Brad pulls from. Kind of pricey but good depth of stuff.

June 18, 2019 at 5:34 pmI get that people like Jam_On as I did too. It would have been cool to keep both. But it’s all good in the hood folks. No petitions necessary man. Those millions can still listen to and discover new talent via YouTube, other social media outlets, other internet radio and music streaming services, or getting out to see actual live music. There’s a wide range of options really. Also, for some of you, it’s kind of funny you pay all that money to Sirius just for 1 station. Isn’t it?
Haywood Jablowme
June 21, 2019 at 1:30 pmDude, you can’t get any of the things you listed as an option when you need SATELLITE to get anything in BFE. Sure there are tons of options, so long as you have internet.
Sick-n-tired
June 18, 2019 at 5:32 pmAwesome! We get to listen to Jonathan Schwartz play different version of the same 30-40 songs over and over.
Jam on ain’t what it used to be but had a nice new jam every now and then.
SickOfDadRock
June 18, 2019 at 5:28 pmPhish was a Jam Band until they turned into a Dad Rock band. I think that started in 2014 after Fuego came out. Sirius you kind of suck for this move. Jam On was one of the best ways to find new Jam Bands that actually Jam (instead of focusing on the Dad Rock Scene). Thanks Sirius (and Phish) for killing the Jam Band Scene.

June 18, 2019 at 5:25 pmCan I complain about the variety on Jam-On? Sure! But where else can I hear bands like King Gizzard, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Khruangbin, Turkuaz, Dopapod? Where else can I hear the Stash from nugs.net?
I subscribed to Sirius just for Jam-On and now I want my money back.
Crackity Jones
June 18, 2019 at 8:26 pmLame. There’s plenty of room for both. There are so many crap channels on Sirius much more worthy of canceling. That said, I agree with others that jam on has turned to shit lately and needs a good overhaul. New DJs, full live shows and less repetition. Repeat playing of songs every hour just does not fit with the jam ethos
Archer

June 19, 2019 at 10:20 pmMy thoughts on the matter exactly, never heard turkuaz or dopapod on a local station. Now won’t hear them on here anymore either.

June 21, 2019 at 10:29 amDopapod…kills it
jam on needs a major change
June 18, 2019 at 5:24 pmjam on should come back, but with a completely different set of DJs. It used to be pretty good, but they now play the same shit all the time, a lot of it not even jam bands. Even when they play cool stuff, they play the same song from each artist every single time. Is “street fighter mas” the only song Kamasi Washington has? They played the shit out of Greensky’s “living over” when that album came out. 2 years later they only play “all for money”. And then for some goddamn reason they play every Revivalist song. How bout keep that shit to mainstream pop stations. This station is supposed to be for improvisational music for fans that want to hear different music played differently. Shouldn’t be too hard.

June 18, 2019 at 4:54 pmJam_On plays the same Revivalists songs like 40 times a day. Besides Steph, theres no personality. Its just a playlist station. They barely play live shows anymore. If they wanna stick around, do something worthwhile

June 19, 2019 at 12:49 pmWell said! They play the same tunes over and over …. “They barely play live shows anymore. If they wanna stick around, do something worthwhile “

June 18, 2019 at 3:26 pmPhish is jamband. No one cares about any other bands. The only reason anyone listened to Jam on, was to hear a phish song. Best move ever, your welcome.

June 18, 2019 at 11:08 pmFunny, I want Phish to have its own channel, as well the Dead, so that I can listen to jam bands without listening to either Phish or the Dead. Nothing wrong with those two bands, except they (and DMB) don’t need the exposure and are way overplayed.
