On Feb. 4, members of Dawes performed at the Bar at Terrapin Crossroads. They were joined by Phil and Grahame Lesh, as well as Stu Allen. This show came on the heels of Dawes’ and the Lesh’s post-Super Bowl show on Feb. 2.
The show began without the elder Lesh on-stage as Dawes and Grahame performed the lone Dawes original of the evening, “If I Wanted Someone.” Next, Stu Allen took the stage on guitar as the band dove into the Grateful Dead’s “Althea.”
Next came three non-Dead covers: “Instant Karma!” by John Lennon, “The Man in Me” by Bob Dylan and “Million Dollar Bill” by Middle Brother.
After “Million Dollar Bill,” Phil Lesh took over on bass as Grahame moved to guitar (Allen also left the stage). The band then dropped into the classic Grateful Dead trio of “Help on the Way” > “Slipknot!” > “Franklin’s Tower.” The show closed with a pairing of “The Wheel” > “Unbroken Chain.”
Lesh will return to Terrapin Crossroads next week for a series of shows which will pay tribute to Grateful Dead concerts performed on his birthday. The venue recently announced that Holly Bowling and Adam MacDougall would be joining Lesh for some of those shows (although none will feature both MacDougall and Bowling).
