Jorma Kaukonen will return to San Francisco to celebrate The Fillmore’s 60^th anniversary in December. Billed as three “very special evenings with Jorma Kaukonen & Friends,” the concerts will take place December 11-13.

The famed venue was built in 1912 and originally opened as Majestic Hall. Though it became the Fillmore Auditorium in 1954, operated by prominent entrepreneur Charles Sullivan, it grew into the venue it would became known as when Sullivan let Bill Graham use his dance hall permit to book a benefit for the San Francisco Mime Troupe in December 1965.

Kaukonen has been a key part of the venue’s history, even appearing as Graham’s first Mime Troupe benefit a few weeks before his inaugural Fillmore gig as a member of Jefferson Airplane.
