A few months after issuing his eighth studio album, Little Wide Open, via Dead Oceans. Kevin Morby has released a new single, “PBJ.” The track was recorded by Morby and producer/National guitarist Aaron Dessner during the Little Wide Open sessions and finds The Slip/Barr Brothers’ Andrew Barr on drums, Dessner on bass and guitar, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon on guitar, and Morby handling the rest of the guitar and vocals.

“Once, long ago, a friend described the act of driving with the windows down while still blasting the air conditioning as ‘Peanut Butter Jelly.’ She told me this phrase was common where she came from but no one I’ve ever talked to has said the same nor can I find anything about it online,” Morby said in a statement. “But I always loved the phrase and have used it ever since. I also love a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (and all its variations) and so this is a very fun song for me. An end of summer song. Listen to it with the windows down… and the air conditioning up.”

To promote the single, Morby will partner with a mix of eateries around the country to offer special PBJ-rooted items.

“We’ve taken this opportunity to collaborate with a handful of my favorite businesses around the country to have some fun and make some delicious meals, snacks and drinks in celebration of the single,” he added. “All are a play off of one of the most timeless recipes ever.”

Those establishments include: Van Leeuwen Ice Cream (a  PBJ ice cream flavor at select locations), New Orleans sandwich shop Turkey and The Wolf  (custom PBJ hat & burger), Los Angeles bakery Bub and Grandma’s (in-store performance), New York’s Culture Espresso (PBJ cookie) and Rockaway Beach Bakery (PBJ croissant), Memphis’ Global Cafe (PBJ drink, with  $2 per drink sold going to Second Chance Kitchen), Durham’s Ideal’s Sandwich and Grocery (PBJ sandwich) and Kansas City’s Heirloom Bakery  (multiple menu items, including a PBJ ice cream sandwich) and Mr D’s Donut Shop (PBJ donut).

In addition, Morby and his partner Katie Crutchfield, with whom he recently welcomed a child, will sit for an upcoming Grammy Museum interview conducted by Jenny Eliscu in Los Angeles on September 22 . The duo will also perform.
