Warren Haynes has unveiled the deluxe edition of his latest solo release, Million Voices Whisper, across streaming platforms. The arrival expands upon Haynes’ 11-song collection, which was initially released on November 1, 2024. The updated output features four bonus tracks. Listen now.
Among the four new bonus tracks is an updated take on the Haynes and Derek Trucks composition, “Back Where I Started,” which was initially on The Derek Trucks Band’s 2009 LP, Already Free. The latest release finds Haynes at the center, leading vocals and adding depth through the application of slide guitar.
In addition to the revised version of “Back Where I Stand,” Million Voices Whisper expanded features a cover of Stephen Stills’ “Find the Cost of Freedom,” the flipside of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s iconic protest anthem, “Ohio,” initially released in the summer of 1970, and replicated by Haynes, Lukas Nelson and Jamey Johnson, which transitions into “Day of Reckoning.”
“This album is quite different than my previous solo records. There’s a lot of soul music influence but very song-oriented with subtle nods to a few of my heroes. And what a treat to get back into the studio with my brother Derek. Big shoutout to him as well as Lukas and Jamey for being a part of it. I’m really proud of this new album,” Haynes said in the initial press release in association with the drop.
Million Voices Whisper is Haynes’ first solo project in almost a decade and fourth overall independent release. The 11-song set was produced by the artist and recorded at Power Station New England. The LP features guest slots from John Medeski, Kevin Scott, Nelson, Johnson, and Haynes’ former Allman Brothers bandmate, Trucks. A powerful entry that percolates currents of blues and rock, Million Voices Whisper informs Haynes’ playing style and originality as a guitar great.
