Joan Osborne has shared the latest preview of her forthcoming LP, Dylanology Live, presented via Womanly Hips Records. Osborne’s sultry blues-fueled adaptation of Bob Dylan’s “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35” presents a glimpse at the impending collection, which features eight live performances of Bob Dylan originals selected by the Grammy-award-winning vocalist. 

Where Dylan’s original pulses with folk-focused authenticity akin to its 1966 release date, Osborne’s band develops “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35” into an elaborate display of expressive instrumentation which supports her jazzy vocal stylings on the beloved “drug song,” known for its fan-loved chorus: “Everybody must get stoned.”

Dylanology Live is the latest display of Osborne’s ongoing affinity for the musical bard, which extends back to her 2017 LP,  Songs of Bob Dylan. Following the release of the studio recordings, the songstress has revisited select numbers in a live format, including renditions of “Spanish Harlem Incident,” “Buckets Of Rain,” “Masters Of War,” “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You,” and “High Water (For Charley Patton).” 

In support of the impending album, Osborne has announced a series of concerts with special guests Nicki Bluhm, Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie), Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison), and Anders Osborne. The run will begin on May 29 at the United Theater in Westerly, R.I., followed by a night at Adler Hall in New York City. 

The tour continues throughout the Northeast into early June, coming to an official close on June 8 after an evening at Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, N.Y. Scroll down to listen to Osborne’s delivery of “Highway 61 Revisited.”
