The Disco Biscuits celebrated Halloween last night at Pelham, TN’s The Caverns, kicking off a three-night run at the subterranean venue. Their first set consisted of a “Caterpillar” sandwiched, which segued into part of Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell,” a version of “Digital Buddha” that was accompanied by some spooky visual, “Dino Baby” and, finally, the end of “Caterpillar.”

The show was billed as “movie night” and the band used their second set to score the 1968 classic “2001: A Space Odyssey,” improvising during the film and performing the classical pieces in the movie live. Then, they offered Richard Strauss’ 1896 masterpiece “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” which was introduced to a new audience thanks to its inclusion in the film’s opening sequence. The tune entered the jamband lexicon in 1993 when Phish began covering an arrangement of the song. For their encore, the Disco Biscuits completed “Run Like Hell.”

Disco Biscuits first scored a film in 1999 when they soundtracked Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira‘ at Philadelphia’s Theater of the Living Arts on New Year’s Eve. They have scored a few films since then, including a Halloween run in 2001 where they played to Alice In Wonderland, It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Koyaanisqatsi and Run Lola Run, a December 31, 2015 gig in New York where they jammed to Tron and a show at The Caverns last year where they performed to The Fifth Element.
