Bob Dylan’s band is a five-piece once again. When Dylan took the stage last evening at Mystic Lake Amphitheater in Shakopee, MN, Julian Lage was back in the fold. Lage joined Dylan’s longtime bass player Tony Garnier, drummer Anton Fig and fellow guitarist Joel Paterson for a 16-song set that echoed the group’s most recent performances.

Lage first appeared with Dylan on June 17 at the Santa Barbara Bowl, stepping in for Doug Lancio, who had been on the road with Dylan since the Rough and Rowdy Ways World Wide Tour opened in November of 2021. Then Lage and Bob Britt (a Dylan tour vet since October 2019) performed in tandem until June 26, at which point Britt departed and by the time of the group’s next gig in Austin at the Moody Amphitheater, guitarist Joel Patterson had joined the group. Lage was not at the June 29 show as he had a prior commitment at Brooklyn, NY’s National Sawdust.

Dylan then appeared in a four-piece for five performances from June 29 through July 4 in Kansas City, Missouri. Finally during last night’s show in Dylan’s home state of Minnesota, Lage rejoined the group. It’s unclear how long he’ll remain as he is scheduled to perform with Christian McBride in Europe on July 11 and 12.

Bob Dylan’s next performance is tomorrow night in Chicago.
