On Friday, Margo Price will release a new collection of protest music. The nine tracks on Days Of Unrest explore a variety of issues and ideas that Price has long addressed. She reflects on these larger themes in noting, “It seems like so many of us have forgotten the message on the statue of liberty that says, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” America is a country built by immigrants and our freedom is precious. I hope these songs may open blind eyes to the cruelty that is happening in our country right now and find compassion in your heart. And in the words of the great John Prine, ‘I really love America. I just don’t know how to get there anymore.’”

One of the songs that will appear on Days Of Unrest is her version of Woody Guthrie’s “Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos),” which features Joan Baez and Memphis Mariachi. Price says of collaboration: “Joan Baez is the reason I picked up a guitar and started singing songs that mean something, so it’s truly one of the greatest honors of my life to sing with her on Deportees (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos). This song was written by Woody Guthrie 100 years ago but it still feels timely today, unfortunately. Thank you also to Memphis Mariachi for the beautiful accompaniment.”

Price’s longtime collaborator Matt Ross-Spang also worked with her on this release. Other covers include Bob Dylan’s “Maggie’s Farm,” Charlie Daniels’ “Long Haired Country Girl” (feat. Billy Swan) and traditional Spanish-language folk song “De Colores” (feat. Memphis Mariachi). Price also contributed a few original compositions to the album which will be issued this Friday, July 3rd.
