Pretty Lights has confirmed his first studio album in 13 years, A Trip Thru Time Fantastic. The 45-track collection will be divided into nine different “constellations,” each of which will feature five tracks. The expansive set is Derek Vincent Smith’s first full-length Pretty Lights effort since 2013’s A Color Map of the Sun and first major release since the artist took a break from 2018-2023 to focus on “himself and his music,” though he has released several EPs and live sets in that time. The initial 15 songs from A Trip Thru Time Fantastic can now be heard on Pretty Lights’ homepage.

I said i didn’t want to focus on albums after ACMOTS over 10 years ago & shifted my energy towards living creative systems & conscious cohesion via the soundship space system and the swirlbridge

so much music was made over those years with my bestest friends, for the purpose of swirling and experimenting with journeys into expressive flow state transmissions & reaching new depths of connection with our beloved cosmic caravan, the PLF

I built a home with the love of my life, found a spiritual path, reunited with my eternal soul brother Michal Menert, formed an AV ensemble to power a traveling laboratory, and been blessed with the most beautiful experience of my life… meeting my son Ayahn.

The time has come to release our musical swirl fodder in the form of the next PL album. A galaxy of 45 songs in 9 constellations before my 45th birthday. Today is constellation 1, 2, and 3.

Along with the record’s announce, Pretty Lights has also confirmed a handful of upcoming dates. For this run, The Pretty Lights Live Band will feature Smith, producer/multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Michal Menert, Break Science keyboardist Borahm Lee and ninety.six, the latter of whom will replace longtime Pretty Lights turntablist Chris Karns. They will kick off this era of Pretty Lights Live with shows at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre from August 21-23. In addition to several previously reported festival plays, the musicians will also make stops at New Orleans’ Fillmore from November 6-8 and Oakland, CA’s Fox Theatre from November 19-21. Several of the new tracks have already entered the Pretty Lights live repertoire.
