Today, Primus’ Les Claypool and Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hütz shared an ode to Ukraine’s president titled “Zelensky: The Man With the Iron Balls.”

According to Rolling Stone Claypool learned of the Russian invasion while eating with some Polish friends and decided to contact Hütz to work on a song. “In that vodka-laced dialogue, we started mutually praising Zelensky for his surprisingly epic display of courage,” Claypool said. ”‘Zelensky has balls of steel!’ we agreed. It was then that we decided that some freaky ‘East meets West’ art needed to be thrown that way.”

The two musicians are supported on the track by The Police’s Stewart Copeland on drums, Sean Lennon who sings and adds guitar, Hütz’ bandmate Sergey Ryabtsev on fiddle and Claypool’s good friend Billy Strings on acoustic guitar.

The lyrics are sung in a heavy and prideful Eastern European tone declare, “An unlikely man grabbed the microphone/ To tell the world what most would not dare/ Determination made the world a difference/ To go beyond what duty calls/ The world now knows Zelensky/ As the man with the iron balls.”

The proceeds of the track will go to the benefit of Nova Ukraine, a non-profit that gives humanitarian relief to the people of Ukraine. Claypool went on to tell Rolling Stone that the track is not a song of condemnation but one of “unity,” a way to rally support for a bullied country, and praise a “David versus Goliath-type man who stood up for their liberty, freedom, and homeland.”

During this year’s Grammys Zelensky made a call for unity saying: “We defend our freedom to live, to love, to sound. On our land, we are fighting Russia which brings horrible silence with its bombs. The dead silence. Fill the silence with your music. Fill it today. To tell our story. Tell the truth about this war on your social networks on TV.”
