As we reported yesterday, Billy Strings will return to the stage with his band a bit earlier than anticipated. While he had been slated to appear at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater on Saturday July 4 for an appearance at Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic and Fireworks, he has added a July 2 gig at Austin’s Moody Theater.
Folks who attended the Charlotte Bluegrass Festival in Charlotte, MI received a surprise when Strings joined the Travelin’ McCourys for the close of their afternoon set.
Strings appeared with the quintet for his own “Highway Hipnosis,” followed by Ronnie McCoury’s “Baltimore Johnny” (which Strings has performed with his band on a few occasions) and then the Grateful Dead’s “Scarlet Begonias.”
Later, during the Del McCoury Band’s evening performance, String returned with his father Terry Barber (with whom he recorded Me/And/Dad in 2022) for Bill Monroe’s “Can’t You Hear Me Calling” and Carter Stanley’s “The Lonesome River.”
