Baltimore’s Funky foursome Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will be heading to Asheville, N.C. for a two-night run this New Year’s Eve. The shows will kick-off at The Orange Peel on Dec. 30, and be followed the next evening by a colossal “intergalactic disco celebration” at the ExploreAsheville.com Arena.

The event has been billed as “Arena 54” an homage to both the highly classified United States Air Force (presumably alien) facility Area 51, and one of history’s most renowned (and for some also equally exclusive) nightclubs, Studio 54.

According to the band, what started as a fun play-on-words theme name elevated itself to a breeding ground for inspiration, both visually and musically, promising to make this year’s sendoff more like a blastoff.

“If Dave Grohl says it, it must be true, disco is back!” Said frontman “Scrambled Greg” Ormont in a press release, referencing Foo Fighters’ recent work as the Dee Gees. “I think we set the bar pretty high last time we played New Year’s Eve at this epic arena, and now we’re going to launch that bar into outer space by infusing our high energy psychedelic funk with smile-inducing disco beats and the supernatural vibes that Asheville emanates as strongly as Roswell.”

Arena 54 will show support from guitar virtuoso Keller Williams, and Georgia-based powerhouse band Funk You.

Tickets will be available Friday, Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. EST.
