Portugal. The Man have announced a release date of April 16th for their upcoming live album. Oregon City Sessions. The band also premiered a new single from the record, “The Devil,” along with a new video.

The Alaskan band ended their first tour in December of 2008. Instead of taking a break after performing 500 shows, the band decided they wanted to record the pinnacle of their live sound that came to be.

“We didn’t have a place to live so we were pretty much either recording or touring,” said singer/guitarist, John Gourley. “We were so wide-eyed coming out of Alaska that every day was an exciting new adventure. I think you can see it in our playing,” he said.

To encapsulate the sound they honed while touring, they took to a studio in a suburb of Portland, OR, and brought their live gear along with some hand-held cameras. Longtime collaborator and filmmaker Graham (Baclagon) Agcaolli and engineer/mixer Jacob Portrait both helped document the album’s creation. The band performed their full set raw, all the way through without stopping.

A few weeks later the band began recording their next album, The Satanic Satanist, and Oregon City Sessions was put on a hold. The band has momentarily been off the road for over a year and felt it was the perfect time to revive Oregon City Sessions, completely as it was the day it was recorded.

Oregon City Sessions will be available via Approaching AIRBalloons/Secretly Distribution. The full-length live album will be out on vinyl on June 11.
