Spafford descended upon San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall earlier this week to ring in 2020, and offered their legion of Spaffnerds a cover-heavy New Year’s Eve with cuts by a number of live music’s most famous acts.

Set one highlights included an opening take on the Allman Brothers’ “Midnight Rider” that took an unexpected pit-stop in Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” as well as a cover of Oasis’ “Champagne Supernova,” which acted as a nod to the holiday’s usual beverage of choice.

The crowd particularly enjoyed the set-one closer of “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)”> “Dirtbath,” the latter tune rapidly becoming a fan favorite.

Spafford’s second frame, on the other hand, was punctuated by its initial version of Phish’s “Wolfman’s Brother” and sent into overdrive by a far-reaching (and hard-rocking) “Electric Taco Stand.”

The band’s original “ETS” morphed into their fourth-ever “Aliens” before counting down to Midnight with “Auld Lang Syne.”

Spafford’s first tune of 2020 was the Grateful Dead’s “Franklin’s Tower,” paying tribute to both the city of San Francisco as well as the Great American Music Hall, which was the location where the Dead recorded their live LP One From The Vault.

Spafford was sure to segue into “Electric Taco Stand” once more before closing the show with a pairing of two newer songs: “Doghouse”> “Part ii.”

They encored with their own “The Reprise” and “Runaway.”
