On Saturday evening, The National played Tecate’s Coordenada Festival in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the group had to make do without one of their usual members, as guitarist Bryce Dessner had other obligations.

While Dessner attended the wedding of friend and Arcade Fire member Richard Reed Perry in Montreal, The National welcomed producer/guitarist Josh Kaufman for their entire festival set, which featured cuts from their latest album, I Am Easy to Find, like opener “You Had Your Soul With You” and “Hey Rosey,” plus older fan favorites like “Fake Empire,” “Bloodbuzz Ohio” and “Terrible Love.”

Kaufman is a longtime accomplice of The National’s members, even providing them some of the instruments they used to record their breakout album, Alligator. Kaufman also worked with The National during the sessions for their Grateful Dead tribute compilation, Day of the Dead, and toured with members of the group as part of Bob Weir’s Campfire Band.

In other Kaufman news, the musician will perform this Saturday, Oct. 26, at Brooklyn’s BRIC House with Joe Russo, Stuart Bogie and Ben Perowsky as Boyfriends. Kaufman also recently joined Annie Nero, Sam Cohen and Ray Rizzo at a High Holidays/Yom Kippur event at NYC’s Cutting Room on Oct. 9 for some tunes, including a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Not Dark Yet” with Steve Salett and Purple Mountain’s “Margaritas at the Mall” with Cassanda Jenkins.

Next up for The National is a show at Boston’s Agganis Arena Oct. 24. See their full schedule here.
