The National will release their new studio album, I Am Easy to Find, this Friday, May 17, and today the band has shared the accompanying short film of the same name, which was directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Mike Mills and stars Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander.

The film, which was screened at recent National performances in Paris, New York, London, Toronto and Los Angeles, is inspired by the band’s new album and features music from the new effort.

“The National gave me the stems for their songs, some were sketches some were finished, and encouraged and allowed me to create my own versions of the songs to score the film,” Mills says in a press release. “The album then features different versions of these same 7 songs—and 9 new songs which sometimes refer to the themes, texts, ideas from the film—but are their own work, their own piece of art.”

While the album has not yet been officially release, fans can now view the full film, which stars Vikander in the role of one woman throughout the various stages of her life. The National have also released video of a Q&A session after the NYC screening—hosted by Julien Baker and featuring Mills and members of the band—along with audio commentary from Mills and from National frontman Matt Berninger and his wife/co-lyricist Carin Besser.
