In the spring of 2010, the New-York Historical Society will launch a new exhibition that focuses on the musical legacy of the Grateful Dead. Currently slated to open on March 5 and extend through July 4, The Grateful Dead: Now Playing at the New-York Historical Society “will chronicle the history of the Grateful Dead, its music, and phenomenal longevity through an array of original art and documents related to the band, its members, performances, and productions. Exhibition highlights from the archive will include concert and recording posters, album art, large-scale marionettes and other stage props, banners, and vast stores of decorated fan mail.” Some of the items will be on display on October 21 when the Historical Society hosts a benefit in support of the Exhibition. Tickets are now on sale for $300 at the organization’s website for the event in which Phil Lesh and Bob Weir reportedly will attend.
