Noted experimental New York music venue , Tonic, will close its doors on April 13. The Lower East Side haunt, which has hosted performances by Medeski Martin and Wood, Yo La Tengo, Steve Bernstein, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, John Zorn, Joe Russo and Marco Benevento, the Slip, Mike Gordon, and Marc Ribot, among others, has been on the verge of extinction for some time. In 2005, the club fought to survive, recruiting a number of alumni for a series of benefit shows. Though those gigs raised enough money to keep Tonic going for a while, the room will shut its doors for good in April. A number of performers will return for one final night at the club before its expiration date. While the room has gigs scheduled through May, shows after April 13 will be relocated to other New York venues like the Abrons Art Center. The Rosewood Thieves will appear at Tonic tonight.
