Soulive just returned from four nights at the Blue Note in Tokyo. For these shows the group expanded to a six-piece with Sam Kininger (alto sax), Ryan Zoidis (tenor sax) and Christian Scott (trumpet). Then Lettuce (whose roster includes Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno and keyboard player Neal Evans) participated in the Fuji Rock Festival with Scott stepping in for Rashawn Ross on trumpet, while Ross is off gigging with the Dave Matthews Band. On Wednesday Lettuce will appear on the Rocks Off Boat Cruise and then this weekend will see both Lettuce and Soulive at Hiram, Maine’s Up North Music Fest and also at the JVC Newport Jazz Festival.
