The String Cheese Incident returned to Red Rocks this weekend for five sets of music. The group performed two sets on Friday, followed by three more on Saturday, which represented the group’s 57th and 58th performances at the venue.

On Friday, the group kicked things off with “Lend Me a Hand,” the title track to their 2023 studio album. From here SCI offered a memorable run from the band’s “Miss Brown’s Teahouse” into Herbie Hancock’s “Chameleon” and then back into “Miss Brown’s Teahouse.” The Hancock song has become a rarity over the past few years, performed about once annually (mot recently on 5/18/25), typically within “Teahouse.” A bit later Sam Walker and Dan Andree from Clay Street Unit, who opened the show, came to the stage, joining SCI for a version of Peter Rowan’s “Midnight Moonlight.” Another sit-in occurred late in set two when Mark Morris from Rapidgrass appeared on “Osiris” which then segued into “Rhythm of the Road” and “Light Fantastic.” The second set also featured a memorable stretch from “One Step Closer” into “Drums” and then “Sweet Spot.”

Saturday’s show was a three-set affair without an opener. The group started off with an acoustic “Living Room Set,” which began with “Joyful Sound,” followed by Restless Wind,” “The Road Home” and then the six-piece’s first version of Paul Simon’s “Late in the Evening” since 10/26/24 at Suwannee Hulaween. From here the band performed the “Good Times Around the Bend,” another uncommon tune as of late, then “Rollover” and “Let’s Go Outside.”

The two sets that followed found the String Cheese Incident” balancing newer and classic material. Tunes such as “Lightning Sky” and “Got To Be You,” which the group first performed this summer complemented classic selections such as “’Round the Wheel” (which included a bonus hula hoop display), “Black Clouds” and “Way Back Home.” The versions of “Beautiful,” which closed set two and “Dirk,” which opened set three were crowd-pleasers, as was the run from “Rivertrance” into “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” and then back into “Rivertrance,” which brought the third frame to a close. The group had last played the Pink Floyd tune at the Belly Up in Aspen on 4/5/19.
