On Friday and Saturday nights the moe.mentUM Tour continued in the Northeast. moe. and Umphrey’s McGee traveled to New York City for a performance at The Rooftop at Pier 17, then made their way to Hyannis, MA for a gig at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. As with the opener on Thursday, both shows features collaborative sequences with the two bands.
Umphrey’s performed an abbreviated opening set on Friday, which was curtailed by weather. Then, following a break, moe. took the stage for a performance that concluded with Umphrey’s joining in the action. Prior to this, during moe.’s sixth tune, they brought out Suke Cerulo for “Thew It All Away.” The Schleigho guitarist had previously stepped in for Chuck Garvey a few years ago, while Garvey recovered from a stroke. Three songs later, the UMoe. portion of the evening began as the bands collaborated on moe.s’ “Captain America,” Umphrey’s original “The Silent Type,” and then covers of the Talking Heads’ “Life During Wartime,” The Band’s “Ophelia and The Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated.” Andy Frasco also contributed to the three covers, with TAUK’s Alric “A.C.” Carter and Matt Jalbert on board for the Talking Heads tune.
On Saturday, moe. opened the show and Umphrey’s served as the closer. Once again, the two bands joined forces at the end of the evening. During the Umphrey’s encore, Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey appeared on guitar, with Jim Loughlin on percussion and Rob Derhak replacing Ryan Stasik on bass for the moe. original “Bring You Down.” Schnier and Loughlin then remained and Stasik returned for Steely Dan’s “Bad Friday.” Finally, the same configuration for “Bring You Down” reassembled for a Blue Öyster Cult’s “Godzilla.”
The moe.mentUM Tour continues tonight at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, NH.
