The Dreaming The Same Dream Tour wrapped up on Saturday in Irving, TX. These dates featured performances by Gov’t Mule and Ziggy Marley with tweener DJ sets from Yola.

The final evening featured plenty of collaboration during the Mule set. Prior to the sit-ins, the group opened with a trio of originals: “Mr. High And Mighty,” “Brand New Angel” and “About To Rage.” Then the quartet offered nods to two celebrated Texas artists. First up was a cover of “Big Legged Woman (With A Short, Short Mini Skirt)” an Israel Tolbert tune that Freddie King made his own over the years. This was followed by the ZZ Top tune “Nasty Dogs And Funky Kings” from the trio’s 1975 album Fandango!

The guest appearances then followed. First up was a version of Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself” which was a collaborative tour staple, with Ziggy Marley on vocals and guitar, Tracey Hazzard and Natasha Pearce contributing background vocals and George Hughes playing B3. Then, following Gov’t Mule’s “Time To Confess,” Yola appeared for Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog,” which is one of the songs she has been singing with the Mule during these dates. Next, the group’s originals “The River Only Flows One Way” and “Same As It Ever Was” led into a pair of Grateful Dead selections. Adam Zimmon and Damon Grant from Ziggy Marley’s band, added guitar and percussion to “Bertha” and “Fire On The Mountain.” The four-piece then closed things out with “Mr. Man” followed by an “Endless Parade” encore.

Gov’t Mule will return to the stage for the band’s New Year’s run, which will begin at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on December 28 then travel to MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, MA for NYE.
