Last night, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country performed the back half of a two-night stand at Denver’s Ogden Theater. It was a notable day for the group, as that morning, CBS Saturday Morning aired a performance from the quartet as part of their Saturday Sessions. Donato and his band offered versions of three tunes that appear on their new album Horizons: “Another Dimension” “Sunshine in the Rain” and “Blame The Train.”

As for the show itself, in addition to two sets of elevated Cosmic Country, Donato brought The String Cheese Incident’s Bill Nershi out for a few tunes. Nershi appeared at the beginning of the second set on acoustic guitar for a three song sequence. Things kicked off with Nershi on lead vocals for a cover of the traditional “Roll In My Sweet Baby’s Arms.” The SCI guitarist then contributed to the Donato original “Blame The Train” before the band returned the favor and backed Nershi on his own “Outside and Inside,” a String Cheese staple.  The guest then left the stage, allowing Donato and Cosmic Country to complete their set, then returned for a high-energy “Turn On Your Love Light” encore.

Donato also announced from the stage that the group would appear at the Mission Ballroom the next time around. Tonight the four-piece is at the Belly Up in Aspen.

Donato spoke with Relix about Horizons, earlier this year.
