On Saturday, Goose stepped into the spotlight for their sold-out headline debut at Madison Square Garden. Tonight, the ascendant indie jam quartet will invite fans who missed out on the landmark performance into the celebration with a pro-shot concert film, premiering exclusively on the Goose YouTube channel at 7 p.m. ET.
Goose landmark performance at the world’s most famous arena went above and beyond high expectations with two sets that pored over their decade-long discography. Longtime setlist staples like “A Western Sun” and “Tumble” found novel pairings with standout selections from their triumphant fourth studio album Everything Must Go and a range of beloved covers, including Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes’ “Don’t Leave Me This Way” and Otis Day and The Nights’ “Shama Lama Ding Dong.” Some of the evening’s most enthralling moments were those featuring a surprise appearance from Everything Must Go’s horn section of Stuart Bogie, Dave Nelson and Andrew McGovern, who gave tried and true tracks a new celebratory feeling.
As their exhilarating and exploratory second set reached transcendent heights with a finale, Goose became so immersed in the performance that they blew well past the venue’s curfew. After briefly departing from the stage in the wake of an awe-inspiring “Dripfield,” the group reemerged for an encore, with keyboardist Peter Anspach expressing the band’s gratitude for their passionate fanbase and inviting them to “hang out for a while.” When the final notes of an unforgettably high-energy “Arcadia” rang out, their largest headline show to date stretched past four total hours of stage time. Goose will return to the stage on July 25 for a set at Newport, R.I.’s esteemed Newport Folk Festival, then wind through three further summer shows before reviving their Everything Must Go Tour in the fall. Find tickets for the band’s upcoming performances here.
