On Thursday, June 11, the Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame, in association with Rhino Records, will mark 50 years of Grateful Dead music in the Boch Center Wang Theatre Grand Lobby in Boston – formerly known as the historic Boston Music Hall. The occasion denotes the Dead’s five-decade milestone, connecting their June 11, 1976, concert date with the impending tribute, which will feature a live-music component to mark the latest live release from Rhino

According to the official event description, Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary Celebration 6/11/76 – 6/11/26, doubles as a celebration of Rhino Records’ recent 5LP vinyl release of the historic performance. As a live offering, Playing Dead, “the Grateful Dead tribute featuring former members of Dark Star Orchestra, Slipknot!, and Uncle John’s Band” will enrich the occasion with a complete run through of the Dead’s 6/11/76 second set material from their Boston Music Hall concert.

Given the time of the Dead’s 1976 stop at the Boston Music Hall, the latter half of the June 11 show from Summer Tour ‘76 presented “St. Stephen” > “Dancin’ in the Streets” > “The Music Never Stopped,” played without pause ahead of the tempo shifting “Ship of Fools.” The original Friday concert also turned over a classic take on “Samson and Delilah,” Garcia’s “Sugaree,” and a final sequence composed of “Sugar Mag” > “Eyes of the World” > “Stella Blue” and “Sunshine Daydream,” in addition to a “Johnny B. Goode” encore.

Tickets for the Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary Celebration 6/11/76 – 6/11/26 are on sale now and available here. Learn more about the new Rhino live LP here.
