Widespread Panic have released the 16th installment of their live multi-track series, dubbed Athens 1998, the band’s free April 18, 1998 performance in downtown Athens, Ga. The event was considered the largest record release party to date, with approximately 100,000 fans in attendance for their first live LP, Light Fuse, Get Away

Notably, parts of the concert were included in the band’s 2002 DVD, Panic in the Streets, although Athens 1998 presents the first whole concert experience outside of the real thing. The live music set presents the band’s late ‘90s lineup: John Bell, John Hermann, Michael Houser, Todd Nance, Domingo Ortiz and Dave Schools, performing 25 tracks.

Longtime producer and Peach State staple John Keane has mixed the latest edition of the recording, which features the band’s live staple and discography nods as reflected on during their initial tenure. Presented is set one’s rollout of “Disco,” “Tall Boy,” “Love Tractor,” “Aunt Avis,” “Walkin’ (For Your Love),” “Henry Parsons Died,” “All Time Low,” “The Take Out,” “Porch Song” and “Blackout Blues.”

Set two picks up with “One Arm Steve,” followed by “Chilly Water,” “Greta,” “Christmas Katie,” “Radio Child,” “Arleen,” a “Papa’s Home” and “Drums” sequence, “Pilgrims” and “Fishwater.” Furthermore, a three-piece encore comprised of “West Virginia,” “Space Wrangler,” and “Ain’t Live Grand.”
