On Jan. 25, Guster participated in a sold-out headlining date at Port Chester, N.Y.’s historic Capitol Theatre. During the Saturday night stop on the band’s current, We Also Have Eras Tour–a playoff, Taylor Swift’s $2 billion earning global journey–they performed tracks off every album from their discography, paying homage to each of their nine releases and following Swift’s format of celebrating each chapter of their 30-year tenure.
After Guster’s concert at The Cap, New York State’s own Color TV kept the momentum going at the adjacent Garcia’s venue. The six-piece welcomed help during their late-night set, tapping powerhouse vocalist Honey Marmalade, who invigorated a cover of Kris Kristofferson’s “Bobby McGee,” causing crowd comparison to the likes of Janis Joplin and swell of might akin to Susan Tedeschi.
In time, the group also welcomed assistance from Guster, with the band’s drummer Brian Rosenworcel showing up and joining the late-night ensemble for Grateful Dead sister songs, “China Cat Sunflower” and “I Know You Rider,” in addition to a cherished rendition of Stephen Still’s attachment-inducing “Love the One You’re With,” livened by Marmalade, who made a grandiose return on the sage number.
During Color TV’s encore, they welcomed Rosenworcel’s return. The guest provided the backbeat on Rolling Stones’ “Loving Cup,” a move that further marked the interrelations between sets on the main stage and its adjoining venue, considering Guster’s Era’s Tour strikes a theatrical interlude with references to the Dead and Stones–including a “Franklin’s Tower” tease to seal the connection. Notably, guitarist Adam Gardner has been keen on nods toward Dead classics during each concert’s aforementioned skit.
