Today, it was announced, that Steve Earle will be hosting Rickie Lee Jones, Peter Rowan, John Criagie and others to perform at a benefit concert for Camp Winnarainbow, a camp, circus & performing arts haven for young people.

The concert will take place at San Francisco’s historic Herbst Theatre and will be opened by a band that went to Camp Winnarainbow, Sour Widows Duo. The camp was founded in 1975 by  Hippie icons Wavy Gravy and Jahanara Romney. 

The camp’s goal is to give kids and adults a chance to “run away to the circus” and give people from every walk of life the chance to come together and have fun. The camp offers activities including trapeze, juggling, clowning, unicycling, songwriting and more, and morning meditation. 

The star studded concert will be featuring Earle, an iconic singer who is regarded as one of the most acclaimed songwriters of his time. Notably, after his debut album in 1986 made waves in the Americana genre, Earle has gone on to have a successful career, winning Grammys and writing books along the way.

Earle will be joined by fellow singer-songwriter icon Lee Jones, whose rock and jazz singing has won her accolades throughout her decades-long career. After starting in 1979 with a self-titled album that won her a Grammy for Best New Artist, Jones has continued to make hits and iconic songs, giving her critical and commercial success. 

John Craigie will also be performing at the benefit concert. Craigie released his first album in 2009 and hasn’t looked back. The folk and Americana musician has since released seven more solo albums and was the opener for Jack Johnson’s 2017 tour.

Filling out the headliners of the concert will be bluegrass icon Rowan. Rowan, a member of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame, has grown in popularity and respect around the world for his consistent sound, collaborative projects, and persistent touring.

The concert will benefit Winnarainbow’s general fund, which helps their extensive scholarships they offer to economically challenged campers.
