British drummer Yussef Dayes reunites with guitarist Tom Misch on the latest single, “Rust,” from his highly anticipated debut album, Black Classical Music. The duo first made waves with their groundbreaking collaboration, Some Kind Of Music, in 2020, which garnered critical acclaim and reached number four on the Official Albums Chart in the UK. Since then, Dayes has been building a global fan base through solo tours, collaborations with renowned brands, and a carefully curated social media presence.

Dayes recently teased fans by sharing a studio clip of himself and Misch working on the track “Rust” and promised to release the full song if the video received 5,000 comments. In less than 12 hours, the post surpassed the target, prompting Dayes to drop the single. The song was shared with an silky animated music video directed by Jack Brown.

“Rust” showcases the dynamic synergy between Dayes and Misch, highlighting their individual strengths. Dayes’s drumming exudes vitality as he effortlessly weaves intricate fills while maintaining a solid groove. Misch’s atmospheric guitar work, pitched down to emulate the bass range, adds a unique melodic layer to the composition, complemented by the addition of keys that further enrich the sonic landscape.

The animated video for “Rust” brings the track to life visually, offering a captivating, and calming visual representation of the music. Brown displays a great mastery of space and flow throughout the visual experience and the “camera” pans around an animated Dayes and the environment around him evolves as the music unfolds.

Black Classical Music is set to release on Sept. 8, and Dayes plans to mark the occasion with his largest UK show to date at the esteemed Royal Albert Hall in London on Oct 12. He also has upcoming shows in California and will be making appearances at various festivals across Europe.
