Lynyrd Skynyrd will be honored with a special tribute at the Country Music and Television Awards in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, April 2. A star-studded lineup of guitarists, vocalists, and musicians will pay homage to the band’s legacy by joining the current band for a performance of two TBA Lynyrd Skynyrd classics.

Today, the band carries on with core members Johnny Van Zant on vocals and Rickey Medlocke on guitar. The lineup will also feature Texas country star Cody Johnson and Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers on vocals, guitar heroes Slash of Guns N’ Roses, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, and Warren Haynes of Gov’t Mule on guitar, along with Chuck Leavell of The Rolling Stones on keys. Nashville studio musicians Ethan Pilzer on bass and Rich Redmond on drums will complete the lineup.

The performance will also celebrate Lynyrd Skynyrds’ backup vocalists, “The Honkettes,” with the help of country music icons Wynonna Judd and LeAnn Rimes.

The tribute will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s debut album and honor the band’s guitarist Gary Rossington who passed away at the age of 71 on March 5. Rossington was the last original member of the band who survived the 1977 plane crash that killed singer Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist Steve Gaines.

Notably, Lynyrd Skynyrd plan to embark on a co-headlining summer tour with ZZ Top that will kick off on July 21.

The awards show will air live from Austin’s Moody Center at 7 p.m. CT on CBS and will stream live and on-demand on Paramount+. Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini will co-host the event. Other special performances will feature Alanis Morissette, Gwen Stefani, The Black Crowes, and more artists.
