Last night, following the kick-off of Phish’s annual New Year’s Eve run at Madison Square Garden, Eggy, an exemplary Connecticut jamband, kept the party going into the night at The Cutting Room just a few blocks east.
They kicked off their main set with “Backyard Bear” and continued to jam into “Farthest Step” into “Shells.” Next came a fan-favorite cover of Elton John’s “Bennie And The Jets,” a song they played during their Halloween show, during which each member dressed in one of the Rocket Man’s iconic outfits.
They rounded the set out with “Rosetta Stone” and a set-closing paring of “One Stop Shop” into Big Thief’s 2022 song “Time Escaping.” After much applause from a delighted New York crowd, Eggy returned for an encore of Billy Joel’s “Why Should I Worry.”
“New Years in New York has always held a special place in our hearts. After years of attending 4 night Phish runs and after-shows, it was a beautiful feeling to see things from the other side and to a sold out crowd, taboot! Thanks for showing us the love and helping us close out the year with a night to remember.”
Eggy’s final show of the year will take place alongside a different group of musical heroes of the band: moe. at The Fillmore in Philadelphia on Dec. 31. The show will also see the return of the celebrated guitarist Chuck Garvey. Read about his inspiring recovery from a stroke, love of music and return to performance here.
