Yesterday, in celebration of his Netflix comedy special Inside’s one-year anniversary, Bo Burnham, released a collection of never before seen footage for an hour-plus outtakes reel titled THE INSIDE OUTTAKES. Burnham spent the last two months editing unused material from the project which gave an intimate and raw look into the comedian’s life, thought processes and inner conflicts he experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown – all in a hilarious and absurd fashion.

Burnham, who won a Grammy for his song “All Eyes on Me” off Inside, shared the 63-minute addition in its entirety via his social media accounts. He wrote, “A year ago today, I released a special called ‘Inside.’ I’ve spent the last two months editing together material that I shot for the special but didn’t end up using. It will be on my youtube channel in one hour. I hope you enjoy it.”

One of Burnham’s major focal points was the rapidly developing dependency on social media. In THE INSIDE OUTTAKES, he sings, “I bought an app to help me meditate that didn’t work” in another song on the project he sings “Give me specific directions on how I can feel good”. Burnham’s direct word choice and sardonic inflection highlight many of the ironic coping mechanisms people use to unwind.

The newly released material like the rest of Inside was filmed from March 2020 to May of 2021, created solely by Burnham and explores an array of existential issues surrounding society including mental health, social media and climate change.
