Last night, Canadian singer-songwriter, poet, multi-instrumentalist and activist Allison Russell hopped on the late-night circuit for a performance of her song “4th Day Prayer” on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The vocalist was joined by a full band, including Milwaukee-based sister duo SistaStrings.

Russell performed the single, which comes off her debut solo LP,  Outside Child, adorned in an azure dress and with a raw energy that befits a poet who strives to empower through education and meaningful action. Outside Child is currently nominated for three Grammys, including Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Performance for “Nightflyer.”

Russell recently signed a book deal with Flatiron Books to publish her memoir, which explores her life and the material that led to Outside Child. Earlier this week, it was announced that Russell will perform during Willie Nelson’s touring Outlaw Music Festival, during its stops in Rogers, Ark. on July 1 and Dallas on July 2.
