Joe Russo’s Almost Dead performed the first of three nights at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia on Thursday night. The five-piece ensemble busted out a cover of “Lazy River Road” at the end of the second set.

The show opened with a fiery “Bertha,” which segued into “Feels Like a Stranger,” and featured notes of “The Wheel.” Next, the band jammed into “Loser” before breaking into the jam epic, “The Eleven.”

Set one continued with fan favorite, “Truckin,’” which included a taste of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” before ending with “The Other One.”

The second set began with a Tom Hamilton-led “Foolish Heart,” followed by “New Minglewood Blues,” featuring an improvised whisper of “Terrapin Station,” “China Cat Sunflower,” and “New Potato Caboose,” and ending with a full version of “Bird Song.”

The set continued with “Let It Grow,” which segued into “Fire on the Mountain.” For their set closer, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead busted out “Lazy River Road” for only the second time, since it was first played at Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Oct. 5, 2017.

For their encore, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead performed the traditional number and frequent Grateful Dead cover, “Samson and Delilah.”
