Former Allman Brother Oteil Burbridge rekindled the family flame at The Peach Music Festival this weekend, welcoming second generation Allmans (all current Allman Betts bandmates) Duane Betts, Devon Allman, Lamar Williams Jr. and Berry Oakley Jr. to the stage during his July 3 set.

After Burbridge opened with Weather Report’s “Elegant People,” Eric Krasno kicked off the guest list with a lengthy sit-in on Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead favorites like “Cats Under the Stars” and “Here Comes Sunshine.”

However, it was the Allman Brothers energy that really made Burbridge’s performance stand out, as he welcomed the second-generation Allmans for versions of “Midnight Rider,” “Blue Sky” and a set-closing “Revival.”

“It was so meaningful to have Duane Betts, Devon Allman, Lamar Williams Jr. and Berry Oakley Jr. join me this weekend,” Burbridge wrote afterwards. “I can’t help but see things in a new light after the forced time of reflection during the pandemic. It made having the sons of most of the Allman Brothers original members with me on stage feel that much more important. Special thanks to Jason Crosby, Tom Guarna, Eric Krasno and Pete Lavezolli for their usual excellence. This was a Peachfest I’ll never forget.”

Naturally, Burbridge returned the favor a few hours later, sitting in with the Allman Betts Band for “Shakedown Street” and “Dreams.”
