The latest Dave’s Picks archival release will drop later this week, showcasing the Grateful Dead’s April 20, 1984 stop at the Philadelphia Civic Arena.
In addition to a wide-spanning “Scarlet”> “Fire” jam to kick off the second set, the outing also included the somewhat rare “Keep Your Day Job,” which was only performed during the Dead’s mid/late ’80s era (57 times between 1984 and 1986).
Get your hands on Dave’s Picks Volume 35 on Thursday, July 16 at Dead.net.

August 22, 2020 at 8:15 pmNow that I have heard Vol. 35 I am blown away how good this show is. Jerry sounds raspy but his guitar and the rest of the band put in a great ensemble performance. A very fine set list. Good pick Dave, thanks.

July 16, 2020 at 9:49 amCurious release. Jerry’s voice was raw, Blowjob finale and a weak show. What are you thinking, DL?🤯

July 13, 2020 at 4:51 pmYa can’t please everybody, all the time!
But I’d be happy with Day Job, Brokedown, Baby Blue or IFTL.
Hard to believe Jerry has been gone 25 years next month…they melt into a dream. Hunter too…

July 13, 2020 at 3:24 pmTo STILLSICKOFDAYJOB.
First, you’re not alone. I will disagree with you on one point though, KYDJ never did kill the buzz me and many others felt at the end of a show.
I/we were always better with a Baby Blue of Brokedown sendoff but artists can’t be on point all the time…..

July 13, 2020 at 2:54 pmThe ONLY thing interesting about Day Job is a discussion of which was a worse and bigger buzz kill to end a great show, it or I Fought The Law.

July 13, 2020 at 2:55 pmWell, unless one replies with “it can’t be IFTL, as there were no killer shows ’92-on” lol.

July 13, 2020 at 2:51 pmOops. I meant 16x in 1982-83: 7x in 82 + 9x in 83.

July 13, 2020 at 2:48 pmOdd that Jambands routinely gets things wrong, especially in the age when databases provide ample resources, including simple-to-use search/find tools to cite sources, confirm citations/stats, etc. In this instance, Jambase claims the Dead played “Day Job” 57x bet. 1984-86. Nope. Yes, 57 times in total, but only 41x in 1984-86, plus 16x in 1982-83.
Also, yet a more amorphous consideration, the “mid-80s” would usually be considered 1984-85-86 (early-80s being 1981-82-83; and late-80s being 1987-88-89). Thus, to claim the Dead played “Day Job” only in the mid-late 80s, is wrong on two further counts: In fact, they played (as noted above) the song 7x in 1982 (and 16x in 1983, which, again, we can debate as being an “early-” or “mid-“decade year); and in any case, never played the song in the late-80s.

July 13, 2020 at 2:46 pmI remember when the Boyz started playing Day Job talking with a Fellow Head after the first time they played it as an Encore (Oakland Auditorium ?) and her and me doing the obligatory eye roll ! No surprise they dropped it out of the repertoire after Me and many Heads said “whatever”…..

July 13, 2020 at 2:22 pmWell, that’s the first time I’ve seen “rare” and Day Job in the same sentence.

July 13, 2020 at 2:15 pmOnly one show of out of the 3 night stand in Philly?! Pretty cheap if you ask me. They should at least add a bonus disc with some highlights of the other 2 shows.
