My Morning Jacket treated their Louisville, Ky. hometown to five nights of songs from April 25-27 and 29-30. The concerts took place at the Louisville Palace Theatre. Each night included special offerings that ranged from guest appearances to first-time covers and live debuts.

Night one, Friday, April 25, was modest compared to the ensuing turnout of first-time plays and dust-offs that would decorate the setlists during concerts to come. Nonetheless, their initial hometown show began with a live debut of  “Come Home Again.” During the main frame, the band ushered in the first “Evelyn Is Not Real” of this tour cycle, before the arrival of fellow Louisville talent, Lacey Guthrie [who served as the night’s support], and assisted during MMJ’s debut cover of Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away.”

During the first of five gigs, the group nodded to Carole King on “I Feel the Earth Move,” which rolled into Traffic’s inquisitive “Feelin’ Alright?” Eventually, the concert ended after the tour debut of Evil Urges’ cut, “Librarian.”

The band’s follow-up on Saturday, April 26, featured deep pulls from the concert’s past, including a take on Prince’s original “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man,” performed for the first time since May 13, 2016. The evening was also marked by tour debuts of “Knot Comes Loose” and Bobby Weir’s “One More Saturday Night.” Another highlight included an unplugged Jim James performing “Bermuda Highway,” sans PA.

Tour debuts kept up during the encore with “Highly Suspicious” and a take on the Pet Shop Boys’ 1986 release, “West End Girls.” The aforementioned motif kept up on night three, Sunday, April 27, and lent itself to member Carl Broemel-penned “Carried Away,” and “Cobra Pt. 1, 2, 3,” As for first time plays, the band added new material to their live archive, including encore takes on the aptly chosen, Simon & Garfunkel number, “Homeward Bound” and Bob Dylan’s famed, “Mr. Tambourine Man.”

My Morning Jacket took the night off on April 28, resuming their hometown run on Tuesday, April 29, with the first “Into the Woods” opener since June 19, 2012, and subsequent tour debut. Adding to the pattern, “Strangulation,” “Death is the Easy Way,” “Magic Bullet,” “Climbing the Ladder,” and  “Rollin Back” all accounted for tour debuts. As for bust-outs, MMJ played “Thin Line” for the first time since March 5, 2018, and covered Sly & the Family Stone’s “Everyday People,” last played on Dec. 31. 2017.

All shows led to night five, guests coming to the stage and assisting their hosts, including Bendigo Fletcher [concert openers] on “Wonderful (The Way I Feel),” and later member of the aforementioned ensemble, Ryan Anderson, arriving on “Just Because I Do,” which included interpolation of The Loving Spoonful’s “Do You Believe in Magic?”

Later on, the hometown favorites busted out two covers, including Dylan’s “Tonight U’ll Be Staying Here With You,” for the first time since Dec. 29, 2017, and later, Marvin Gaye’s “Baby Don’t You Do It,” last played on Jan. 29, 2014.

Following MMJ’s hometown run, they will return to the stage tonight, May 2, at The Factory in St. Louis. Tickets remain on sale.

My Morning Jacket’s Jazz Festival appearance will follow on May 4. Tickets
