Goose continues to make the most of their time in New Orleans. On Friday, a day after the group made their debut at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fairgrounds and most of the ensemble played an unannounced late-night show with Aron Magner and Marc Brownstein of the Disco Biscuits, Goose offered a surprise show at the city’s legendary Preservation Hall. The appearance was part of the venue’s famed Midnight Preserves series and also fell on release day for Goose’s latest LP, Everything Must Go.
The short set opened with a version of “Arcadia” featuring the Preservation Hall horn section and area guitarist Joshua Starkman, all of whom remained on stage for the second song of the show, “Turned Clouds.” Then, saxophonist Karl Denson emerged to help Goose, Starkman and the members of Pres Hall close things out with a take on “Hot Tea.”
While at the venue, Goose guitarist Rick Mitarotonda also joined David Shaw on “Got Me Feeling Goose” during his Midnight Preserves show. (Shaw previously sat in with Goose during their Daze Between gig in 2023.) Then, last night, drummer Cotter Ellis took part in a Voodoo Dead show at the Republic.
