Last night Phish opened its three-night stand at the Hollywood Bowl. These shows mark the conclusion of the group’s 2025 spring tour. The culmination on Sunday also will coincide with the announcement of the latest inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (while Phish won the fan vote, that equates to a single ballot among the 1000+ that were cast by music industry participants). The audience members included Jimmy Kimmel, Drew Carey and Marc Maron, who interviewed Trey Anastasio for his podcast earlier this year.
Friday’s show opened with “46 Days,” kicking off Phish’s sixth performance at the southern California venue where the quartet initially appeared on August 8, 2011. “Rift” then followed, making its spring tour debut. “Chalk Dust Torture” was an early highlight, and included a “Norwegian Wood” tease from Anastasio. A 12-minute version of “Stash” also drew an enthusiastic response from the crowd, followed by a closing run that led from “Wolfman’s Brother” into “Harry Hood.” The latter tune is a first-set rarity, which previously appeared in this slot back in August 2023.
“What’s Going Through Your Mind” opened the second frame and segued into a version of “Carini” that included some “Dave’s Energy Guide” quotes. The “Light” that followed extended to 20 minutes, providing one of the show’s finest moments. It led into another standout, the first tour performance of “Mercury.” The sequence then moved into “Piper” and “A Life Beyond The Dream” followed by a “Ghost” closer. Phish then delivered a “Possum” encore, proceeded by a “Tweezer Reprise” (albeit without the preceding “Tweezer” which the group does occasionally, most recently on New Year’s Eve).
Phish returns to Hollywood this evening. A photo gallery from the show appears at Relix.com.
