On Jan. 30, Umphrey’s McGee brought their Hindsight 20/20 tour to Northfield, Ohio for a show at the MGM Northfield Park. The show was highlighted by a cover of Steely Dan’s “Hey Nineteen” with The New Deal’s Jamie Shields. In addition, Umphrey’s covered Rush’s “Limelight” for the second time in their history (it debuted at the Beacon Theatre on Jan. 18, 2020) as the encore.

The first set began with “Room to Breathe,” followed by “Intentions Clear.” Later in the set, the band invited Jamie Shields of The New Deal (who also opened the show) to provide some keyboard work on a cover of Steely Dan’s “Hey Nineteen.” Shields is a part of the Omega Moos, which also features Umphrey’s members Brendan Bayliss and Ryan Stasik, as well as Nick Blasky.

This was Umphrey’s first performance of “Hey Nineteen” since Aug. 16, 2018. The band has played the cover 84 times in their history, debuting on Sept. 17, 1999 (according to allthings.umphreys.com). The first set closed with “40’s Theme.”

Set two kicked off with “The Silent Type.” The entire second half of the set saw the band move between songs without stopping; they transitioned from “Booth Love” to “Wappy Sprayberry,” then into “Resolution” and then finally closed the set with “Upward.”

For the encore, the band played Rush’s “Limelight” for only the second time in their history, the first being on the second night of the Hindsight 20/20 tour in New York City (Jan. 18, 2020 at the Beacon Theatre). The band has been peppering Rush covers into their setlists during this tour as a tribute to the late Neil Peart.
