On Jan. 17, Umphrey’s McGee kicked off their Hindsight 20/20 tour with a show at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.

The show’s first set closed with a performance of Rush’s “Anthem” in honor of the late Neil Peart. Additionally, prior to the second set, bassist Ryan Stasik awarded a trophy to SiriusXM’s Ari Fink, who had won a fantasy football league that some of the members of Umphrey’s (among other musicians and industry folk) participate in.

The first set began with “Unsung Hero,” followed by “JaJunk.” Next the band played “Ocean Billy,” after which they urged fans to give new lighting director Ben Factor a warm welcome. Factor replaced longtime Umphrey’s LD (and former Relix editor) Jefferson Waful, who announced his early retirement in August.

To conclude the first set, Umphrey’s invited Kanika Moore to the stage to provide vocals on a cover of Rush’s “Anthem” from their 1975 record Fly By Night. Before playing the song, guitarist Brendan Bayliss said a few words about the late Neil Peart. “We grew up listening to rush. We lost a good one,” he said. “This goes out to Neil and his family.”

Umphrey’s opened the second set with “Suxity,” a song they released as a single earlier in the week. The song then transitioned into a return to “JaJunk” followed by “Breaker.” From then on, the band never came to a stop, concluding the set with a four-song sequence of “Wappy Sprayberry” > “Mulche’s Odyssey” > “Half Delayed” > “It Doesn’t Matter.”

For the encore, Umphrey’s opted for “The Weight Around” followed by “The Silent Type.”

The band returns to the Beacon tonight for their second of two shows. On Sunday, Umphrey’s will play a sold out show at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl. The Relix Channel is offering a free livestream of the Brooklyn Bowl gig; click here to tune in.
