A new musical project has just formally announced itself. Over recent months occasional social posts have pointed to a new collaborative endeavor with Dawes’ Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, Soulive’s Eric Krasno, Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda, Circles Around the Sun keyboardist Adam MacDougall and Terrapin Family Band guitar player Ross James. In July Taylor Goldsmith confirmed the existence of the group.
At that time, he posted to his Substack “We’ve been getting a lot of questions about this band pictured above since it was briefly discussed in our last Little Bit Of Everything post. From left to right, the band consists of Ross James, me, Adam MacDougall, Eric Krasno, Griff, and Rick Mitarotonda. The band also includes Oteil Burbridge, but he wasn’t there the day we took this picture. This post isn’t gonna be too long because I still can’t tell you too much. I can’t tell you the band name. I can’t tell you about our plan to play some shows. But I can tell you that both of those things exist. I’ve received permission from my bandmates to share a demo of a tune that we cut for the record. This is just me and an acoustic guitar playing a song a little over 4 minutes. Whereas the studio version with the full band clocks in at a little over 8 😳. If you’re the kind of Dawes fan that has enjoyed following us into our Misadventures of Doomscroller moment, I think you’re going to really enjoy what we’re cooking up.”
The collective has now set up an Instagram account under the name Rainbow Body and shared some music. The post comes with the message: “In January 2026 Taylor Goldsmith, Griff Goldsmith, Rick Mitarotonda, Eric Krasno, Ross James, and Adam MacDougall gathered in Topanga Canyon to write a record. One month later, the band traveled to Northern Iceland to record eight original songs at @flokistudios near the Arctic Circle. Moving between psychedelic rock, Americana, soul, folk, and improvisation, Rainbow Body is built around songs, chemistry, and the freedom to follow the music wherever it leads.”
While Burbridge does not appear to be a full-time member (presumably there was a conflict with his touring schedule) excitement still abounds for what’s to follow.
