Storied blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa joined Gov’t Mule for two songs on Saturday night, accenting the band’s one-off gig at London’s O2 Forum.
After opening the show with their version of the traditional “Railroad Boy,” Gov’t Mule invited Bonamassa onstage for the last two songs of the set, namely Bonamassa’s own “If Heartaches Were Nickels” and Jeff Beck’s “Freeway Jam.”
“I’ve known Warren for almost 25 years. I am honored to call him a friend but still just in awe of his playing and singing,” Bonamassa wrote afterwards via Instagram. “The whole band is stunning Mat, Danny and Jorgen. Thanks for having me out it was an honor.”
Later, Gov’t Mule accented the second half with an opening “Thorns of Life,” a version of Warren Haynes’ ABB standby “Soulshine” and a closing “Mr. Man.” They encored with High & Mighty cut “Endless Parade.”
