The lineup for the 2012 Newport Jazz Festival has been announced. Pat Metheny’s Unity Band, Jack DeJohnette, Bill Frisell, Christian McBride’s Inside Straight, vocalist Kurt Elling and the Tedeschi Trucks Band are among the all-star list of performers slated to perform. Also included are rising jazz stars such as saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa, trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, saxophonist Miguel Zenon, pianist Jason Moran and more. The event kicks off August 3 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame before moving to Fort Adams State Park from August 4-5.

The August 4 lineup includes the Pat Metheny Unity Band, Bill Frisell playing John Lennon, Jack DeJohnette, Christian McBride’s Insight Straight, The Bad Plus with Bill Frisell, Dianne Reeves, the Joe Lovano & Dave Douglas Quintet, the James Carter Organ Trio, the Dafnis Prieto Sextet, 3 Clarinets featuring Ken Peplowski, Evan Christopher, and Anat Cohen, John Ellis & Double Wide, the Pedrito Martinez Group, and Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society.

The August 5 lineup includes The Tedeschi Trucks Band, Kurt Elling, Jenny Scheinman and Bill Frisell, John Hollenbeck’s Claudia Quintet + 1 featuring Theo Bleckmann, Rudresh Mahanthappa’s Samdhi, Maria Schneider Orchestra, Miguel Zenon’s Rayuela, the Ambrose Akinmusire Quintet, Gretchen Parlato and Lionel Loueke with Becca Stevens, the 3 Cohens, Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks, the Lewis Nash Quintet, Ryan Truesdell’s Gill Evans Centennial Project, and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute Septet.

The lineup for the concert on Friday night, Aug. 3, at the International Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino has yet to be announced.
