Last night RatDog closed its run of shows with the Allman Brothers Band at Holmdel, NJs PNC Bank Arts Center. While both groups offered full sets, RatDog played first and brought out Derek Trucks and Oteil Burbridge on Scarlet Begonias. Soon after, Warren Haynes emerged and helped RatDog close its set tour with segue connecting Come Together and Not Fade Away. RatDog then returned to the stage for a show closing Ripple. Later in the evening, Bob Weir, Steve Kimock and RatDog drummer Jay Lane, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and saxophonist Kenny Brooks returned to the stage during the Allman Brothers Bands set for All Along the Watchtower (with Weir and Haynes trading lead vocals). Though many, many bands have covered the Bob Dylan song over the years, the Allman Brothers Band has only played the John Wesley Harding number a handful of times and, fittingly, on this night, Gregg Allman sat out the tune.
RatDog is off the road an October 30 appearance at Westbury, NYs North Fork Theatre, while the Allman Brothers Band will appear at Clarkston, MIs DTE Energy Music Theatre this Friday. Look for an interview with Burbridge on the site later today.
