A number of Grateful Dead family members will appear throughout New York and San Francisco during the second annual Green Apple Music & Arts Festival. Last year Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann helped open the inaugural Green Apple by hosting the Jammy Awards. Throughout the weekend Hart played with a number of musicians, including Walter Cronkite at a free Green Apple show outside Grand Central.
As part of Green Apples New York festivities, Steve Kimock, Greg Anton, Martin Fierro, Melvin Seals, Liam Hanrahan, Donna Jean Godchaux and John Morgan Kimock will perform together as Zero on April 20. The all-star lineup will appear at the new Gramercy Theater, marking Zeros first New York City appearance in almost a decade.
Meanwhile, as part of Green Apple San Francisco, RatDog guitarist Mark Karan, Phil Lesh and Friends drummer John Molo, Bruce Hornsby keyboardist JT Thomas and Albert King bassist Bob Gross will perform as Jemimah Puddleduck at Mill Valley, CAs Sweetwater Saloon on April 20. A night later, the RatDog trio of drummer Jay Lane, saxophonist Kenny Brooks and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti will also perform with a variety of musicians as Alphabet Soup at Easy Bay, CAs Uptown Night Club. On this night, Lane will pull double duty, also appearing in Band of Brotherz. Finally, as previously reported, RatDog will headline a free Green Apple show in Golden Gate Park on April 22.
