Motet drummer Dave Watts has assembled five additional players to perform with him as Speaking In Tongues this December. The group also consists of adjunct Motet member Cheme Gastelum (Robert Walter’s 20th Congress) along with Fuzz (Deep Banana Blackout), Jessica Lurie (Living Daylights), Greg Garrison (Leftover Salmon) and Dave Ciere (Chief Broom). Ciere will only appear on the second half of the tour which begins in Crested Butte at The Eldo on 12/15, followed by shows in Durango (Abbey Theater, 12/16) and Taos (Herb’s Lounge 12/17). The band then returns to Colorado with Cieri on keys for gigs in Denver (Cervantes, 12/18), Fort Collins (The Starlight, 12/19) and Boulder (Fox Theater, 12/20). Although the group shares its name with a classic Talking Heads album, the band will not focus on Heads material (although the quintet likely could tear up numerous songs on Speaking In Tongues, starting with ‘Swamp,’ ‘Girlfriend Is Better’ and ‘Making Flipping Floppy’).
