Umphreys McGee and OM Trio collaborated Saturday night aboard the Spirit of Chicago, which cruised around Lake Michigan from midnight 3 a.m. During the set, the members of OM Trio replaced the musicians from Umphreys, creating a seamless musical transition into an extended instrumental. After catching a glimpse of the Chicago skyline from the deck, the members of Umphreys McGee returned to the stage to complete the set.
On Sunday, tabla player Kalyan Pathak of the Fareed Haque Group sat in with Umphreys at the Skyline Stage in Chicago. Pathak joined in for Duck Butter, a song that he and the band had written at sound check a few hours earlier. He also jammed on Pay the Snucka.
Umphreys McGee plays Saturday, August 16 at Durty Nellies in Palatine, IL. For more dates, visit www.umphreys.com.
